When you are deciding what to trust with your privacy, your devices, or your money, you deserve to know how a recommendation was reached. This page explains how Tech Cyber News evaluates products and what our ratings mean.
Our Principles
- Readers first. We judge products by what matters to real users: protection, privacy, ease of use, and value.
- No pay-to-play. Companies cannot buy a higher rating, a place on a list, or a change to our opinion.
- Honest about evidence. Where we have used a product ourselves, we say so. Where our assessment is based on published specifications, independent lab results, company documents, and user feedback, we say that too.
- Mistakes and downsides count. We report weaknesses and limitations as clearly as strengths.
How We Evaluate VPNs
We look at:
- Privacy and logging: what the provider says it stores, whether the policy is clear, whether it has been independently audited, and where the company is based.
- Security: encryption standards, supported protocols, kill switch, and protection against DNS and IP leaks.
- Speed and reliability: how connections perform [describe how you measure this, for example: tests on several servers at different times of day].
- Server network: number and location of servers, and how well they cover the regions readers care about.
- Apps and ease of use: apps for common devices, setup, and daily use.
- Price and refund terms: the real cost, including renewal prices, plus the refund period.
- Support and transparency: quality of support and how openly the company explains who owns it and how it works.
A VPN does not make you anonymous or protect you from every threat. We say what a service can and cannot do, and we do not encourage illegal use of any product.
How We Evaluate Antivirus and Security Tools
We look at:
- Protection: results from respected independent testing labs, such as AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, and SE Labs, where available.
- Performance impact: how much the software slows down a device during everyday use.
- False alarms: how often safe files and websites are wrongly flagged.
- Features: useful extras, such as a firewall, password manager, web protection, or parental controls, and whether they are well made.
- Privacy of the vendor: how the company handles your data.
- Price and renewal: the first-year price, renewal price, number of devices, and platforms supported.
No single tool catches everything. We explain what protection software does, what it does not do, and which habits matter just as much.
How We Evaluate Gadgets and Apps
We look at:
- Design and build quality
- Performance and battery life in realistic use
- Software, updates, and security support: how long the maker supports the device with updates
- Privacy and data practices of the device or app
- Value for money compared with similar products
- Warranty and support
Ratings and Scores
[Describe your scoring here. For example: We rate products out of 5. Scores reflect how well a product meets the criteria above for the type of user it is designed for. If you do not use numeric scores, replace this section with a short explanation of how you pick your top choices.]
How We Choose What to Review
We choose products based on reader interest, popularity, new releases, and relevance to our audience. Companies may send us information or review units, but this does not give them any say in our conclusions. If we receive a free product or any other benefit, we say so in the article.
Keeping Reviews Up to Date
Prices, features, and security practices change quickly. We reviewand update our comparison articles [every 6 months, or sooner when something important changes], and we show the date of the latest update on the article.
Affiliate Links and Independence
Some of our reviews and lists contain affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This does not change our ratings or what we write. Read more in our Affiliate Disclosure and Editorial Policy.
Limits of Our Reviews
Our reviews are general guidance. Your needs, devices, and location may be different, and products can change after we review them. Please read our Disclaimer, and check the latest details on the seller’s website before you buy.
